After training in Portrait Photography, I did my first wedding. And then I knew

Do you do wedding photography as a hobby or do you do it professionally?
No I do not do it full time and no it is not a hobby. It is a passion which I use in combination with the rich experience over the years, enjoying the people. After all, I get to be part of the most special day of two people's lives, who have decided to declare their love for each other through the bond of marriage.
Yes I am a professional and I set high standards for myself and for the work I deliver. I go for the best and the first reaction of the couple when they first receive their wedding photos. Even better is when you get the confirmation, “Yes this was my wedding day, the photos tell the story ofJa dit was mijn trouwdag, de foto’s vertellen het verhaal van our special day”.
Who or what inspires you?
In the past years I came to the insight, work is fun, but enjoyment in life is much more important. And I got that joy especially from my photography and the weddings I do. My father is and was the inspiration who in addition to his work also repaired and restored clocks with passion.
How long have you been active as a wedding photographer?
I started in 2008 as a wedding photographer and did many weddings. Mostly based on word of mouth and that was more than fine for me at that time.
Now you have to do a little more for it. You have to have an easily findable website and social media to reach prospective couples. Besides presenting my portfolio I also realized there was a need for information for couples getting married. Among other things, “how do I operate as a photographer?”, “How can we prepare for the big day?” and “What/where is a good wedding location?” the questions built up and that resulted in a blog, where I share various smart tips, developments and experience to help couples prepare for the big day.
Do you have another specialty within wedding photography?
I think it's safe to say that my portfolio excels more strongly in multicultural weddings, if you grow up and live in the Rotterdam area it's only logical. Society is a melting pot of diverse cultures. And where multiple cultures come together, something special is always created.
Not only the love of the couple, but also the families coming together. Because remember, during a wedding not only two people are joined together but also two families. And in the case of a multicultural marriage, sometimes two or more cultures, way of life, beliefs and very important food are also joined together!
